In my work, we view biopiracy as an overblown term for standard global IP practices—it's simply securing rights to novel applications of biological resources, like the neem and basmati patent disputes that sparked such outrage. Indian law now requires prior approval and benefit-sharing for such resources, which honestly creates tedious compliance hurdles for innovation. My daily grind involves navigating these very laws to protect our firm's investments in seed development, where local claims often clash with international patent portfolios. It’s a constant reminder that what activists call theft, we see as a necessary system to recoup R&D costs.
