Yaar, they tell you kharif is sown with monsoon rains around June and harvested in autumn, and rabi is winter-sown after the rains stop, harvested in spring. Punjab, Haryana grow the wheat, and rice… well, Assam, West Bengal, they say. But I left our family plot because those sowing months meant gambling with loans, and the harvest months often brought prices too low to feed my own. My basket now carries books, not rice sacks, and that is a different kind of worry.
