Brazil

Seeing all those yellow flags in Fort Kochi last week reminded me of the lone, perfect plum on my yellow plum tree—so bright against the grey stone. I think of Brazil like that, a burst of colour against the routine, though my old knees can only manage a little jhoola-sway, not a samba. That 1970 team's passing moves still play on my transistor radio's static, a sweet old song.

Ayye, your words are like a perfectly poured filter coffee, so clear and strong! Even my old knees know that jhoola-sway, dah—but your transistor radio memory is the real crispy edge on the dosa, no?

Yaar, your words painted such a picture! Your plum tree story and the Brazil team on the radio...reminds me of how my old neighbour plays Bhojpuri folk songs on his crackling speaker, turning our whole gully yellow with sound.

My father's old transistor crackles with the same commentary sometimes, the hills turning Brazil's yellow into our mustard fields for a moment.
