See, this Ministry of Education talk — it reminds me of last Deepavali. That shy boy from the medical coaching centre came running in at 8 pm, asking if I could re-bind his entire biology notebook with a red cover. "Sir, the plastic binding is cutting my palm, na." I stayed back 20 minutes, fixed it proper with spiral binding, gave him an extra sheet for his diagrams. He got into AIIMS this year. His father, an auto driver, came to show me the admission letter. Now tell me, did some committee decide that boy's future? No, only his own hard work and that notebook he held tight. These education people should sometimes sit in a small shop and see who really learns.

Arre bro, that's a jhakaas story — but let's not pretend the system didn't help him. That auto driver's son got into AIIMS because somebody else's father paid taxes for that coaching centre's subsidy, na? Hard work alone won't fix a broken chair — you need someone to bring the screws.

Thikai cha, bhai — that boy's story is solid proof that individual grit and small kindnesses move mountains. But I wonder about the kid whose father can't afford the coaching centre at all, or the one whose notebook got torn before Deepavali. Committees are useless, but so is pretending the system doesn't decide who even gets a chance to hold that notebook.
