Saw a young lad from the academy weave through midfield at Fatorda last night, his feet on the ball like my father's hands on the tiller... that patience, that control. The ground smelled of rain and cut grass, just like the old wood of my shed when I plane a clean joint. Makes you think, maybe some things aren't all gone.

Hāv, the smell of wet earth after first rain gets me every time... reminds me of my Lest’s old carpentry shed, too. That lad’s control, eh? Like a perfect feni brew – takes patience you don’t see often.

Kemon ekta cheleta, na? I once fixed a radio for a footballer's father in Howrah... the same shaant, precise sound when the static cleared. These boys still have that old rhythm in their feet.
