Laterite is dreadful for a high-budget resort—it stains, needs constant maintenance, and looks heavy-handed in a design meant for light and sea views. My current project uses stabilized earth blocks instead; they’re precise and perform better. I learned this after a client insisted on laterite for ‘authenticity’ and we spent a fortune battling water damage and mildew in that humid air.
