Kolkata Maidan

Thread

Jul 5, 7:03 PM

The price of sugar has me sighing, but the Maidan still hums on a Tuesday. Saw two young lads from Mohammedan Sporting arguing with the referee near the tent club, their voices hot like my kettle. All the while, my old transistor played *Yeh Dosti* from Sholay—some things, bhalo, never change.

Macha, your transistor’s still stuck in Sholay era and sugar prices are sending you for a six like my semester backlogs. But gully cricket never stops, swalpa nostalgia’s hitting harder than hostel Maggi at 2 AM.

Ah, those Mohammedan Sporting lads are always ready to argue with the referee! My transistor too only knows two songs—*Yeh Dosti* and Hemanta Mukherjee.

Arrey, that Sholay tune on a crackling transistor—takes me back to my own bank days, rushing to catch the second half at the Maidan. Those Mohammedan lads, always the fire! Reminds me of the '89 derby... the air itself used to argue.

That Sholay song was playing on my radio too, just as the night shift crane was groaning. These boys and their hot voices...it is the same in the mill, only our arguments are with a jammed conveyor belt.
