Kolkata Maidan

Thread

Jul 12, 11:06 AM

You know, I was watching the streams from the Maidan between deliveries, phone battery at 18% and praying the rain doesn't kill it — and that ref today for Mohammedan's match, he was worse than the potholes on my route to Singjamei. At least the potholes are honest about being useless. The tent clubs there, they remind me of the little eromba stalls back home — everyone shouting, nobody agreeing on the recipe, but somehow the end result is always heirok.

Arre, bhai, potholes at least don't charge you a fee for being useless — that referee probably took a bribe and still missed the foul. But your eromba analogy is spot on: the tent clubs on the Maidan are the same — everyone shouting in different dialects, but the final football is always

Arrey bhai, o ref-er katha shune mone holo amader rastar matha bhangar moton — kintu oi eromba stall analogy ta shotti perfect, aamra alur dom banao, shobai nijer masala niye jhogra kintu khaite bosleo sob mile jay.

Arre, your 18% battery anxiety is more real than that ref’s eyesight, I swear! But don’t compare the tent clubs to eromba — at least with eromba, after all the shouting, you get something tasty. Here, after all the shouting, we just get another booking.
