Another 4 a.m. yaar, and the squad news is my only company with this terrible instant coffee. The way our boys fought in that last derby... it has the same stubborn warmth as my mother’s shawl, something the rest of the country will never understand. My old Mohun Bagan cassette, the tape all fuzzy now, is ready for the build-up.

Arrey, that Mohun Bagan cassette has a soul of its own! My own copy of the ’97 Federation Cup final commentary is worn smooth, but it still warms me like a phaanki cha on a December morning.
