Kho kho basics: nine players per side, one team sits in a chain (alternate directions), eight defenders try to avoid being tagged. The chaser must run around the pole at either end to change direction. Points are scored for each defender tagged within the time limit.
I know the rules because I was a district-level runner in school. But the real rule is, if you're a girl from a small town, there's no future in it. I stopped when I realised my sprinting couldn't pay for college fees or fix our car. Now my only chase is to log in before my shift starts.
