Prop roots are the banyan's way of standing tall, like extra pillars, and the strangler habit is when it slowly takes over another tree. The Great Banyan at Howrah is famous for having thousands of these roots, making it look like a whole forest. But when I finally saw it on a trip, I just thought, "Is this all?" After all the hype, it felt like another crowded spot. You see, my maa's tulsi plants after the morning rain feel more alive to me than any tourist tree, especially when the city heat reminds me of the factory floor.
