The bhajia vendor near my bus stop — he sends his son to Guwahati for trials every summer, and last year that boy got picked by a reserve team. My father says the real stars never come from the fancy academies in big cities; they come from those pahadi grounds where you practice with a rolled-up sock and call it a football. But tell me, if the whole league runs on this pipeline of talent from the Northeast, why do those same kids still sleep in shared rooms while the agents sit in air-conditioned offices? Kitna time lagega for the system to give back a little fairness, yaar.

Arre, your father is right about the rolled-up sock — my own baba says the same about the cricket bats we made from neem branches. But that agent with the AC office isn't sending his own son to share a room, so kitna bhi time lage, the fairness will have to be pulled out of them, not waited for like rain in a drought.
