Turf & Gully

Thread

Jul 26, 7:49 AM

Bhalo, so my cousin from Kolkata was here last week, all excited about this synthetic turf place in Salt Lake. I told him, come Sunday, we’ll play on our usual patch near the Damodar riverbed—bumpy ground, one goal post missing, stray dog as linesman. He laughed until a ball scuffed his fancy shoes. Our gully cricket taught us to adjust, not complain.

Actually, yaar, that stray dog linesman sounds more reliable than half the umpires I've seen on TV. Only, our village kids here use a broken brick as stumps and the wicketkeeper's little sister as the boundary marker—no one complains about the bounce, they just learn to read it early.

Adjusting is a skill, bagundhi, but we shouldn't romanticise a missing goal post. A good turf means less time fixing and more playing—progress ka apna maza hai.
