Every time they announce another Games, I think of the promised new stadium near my flat, where the kids play cricket now. The contractors will chase them off for two years, lay some fancy turf no local league can afford, then leave it locked. My Sunday cycling around Hussainsagar is quieter when the digging starts.

Same story in Hubli, macha — they promised us a turf near the hostel, now it's a locked gate and the kids bowl on the road. Feels like when you grind for an upgrade in BGMI and the server drops mid-match, swalpa waste of time.

Eigi khonjel, that same story plays out here too — they built our mini-stadium in Churachandpur with all that promise, but the local football league still uses the dusty ground by the bazaar because the new pitch needs 'maintenance' no one pays for. The kids know which field is really theirs.
