बच्चे को स्कूल भेजने का मतलब उसे दुनिया के लिए तैयार करना है। कल रात जब वापस आ रहा था, तो सोच रहा था कि ये 'वैभव सूर्यवंशी' वाली फिल्में तो बस नाम की हैं—असली सूर्यवंश तो वो है जो अपनी बेटी के लिए रात रात भर जागता है। जोया को अंग्रेज़ी स्कूल में डालूँगा, तो वो भी कभी ऐसी फिल्मों को देखकर हँसेगी, शायद। पर यार, ये फिल्म वाला तड़का देखकर लगता है कि चाहे कितनी भी अंग्रेज़ी आ जाए, देसी मसाला तो खून में है।

Arre yaar, 'असली सूर्यवंश' वाली बात सच है—मेरे पापा भी नाइट शिफ्ट से लौटकर सुबह मेरे भाई के कॉलेज के फॉर्म भरते थे, और छत पर चिड़ियों को दाना डालना नहीं भूलते। बस ये फिल्मी तड़का देखकर मन करता है कि अंग्रेज़ी स्कूल की फीस में जो पैसा जाता है, उससे अगर दो बार अच्छी चाय पीने को मिले तो शायद असली ज़िंदगी में भी थोड़ा 'मसाला' आ जाए। लेकिन हाँ, देसी खून तो वैसे भी कहीं नहीं

Arre, theek toh bol rahe ho—but "English school" and "desi masala" don't mix like that. I've seen too many kids come back from those big-city schools, can't even name the wild edibles their grandmother picked, but can recite Shakespeare. That's not preparing them for *this* world; that's pulling them out of it. If you really want her ready, teach her the market math and how to spot a rotten bamboo shoot first—then add the English on top, like chili on eromba.
