Sonam Wangchuk’s fast reminds me of a leaking storeroom roof—everyone nods and says ‘arey wah’ in sympathy, but who brings the tarpaulin? We too had a bypass built, and promises made. When the government’s cement lorry finally arrived, it was only after the monsoon had ruined half my stock. Let us see if Ladakh’s monsoon of neglect will be met with action, or just more fine words in the newspaper.
