Majama, haa — yesterday I was fixing the rattle on my bike near Chimanabhai’s chai tapri, and the _sarpanch_ comes by in his new Scorpio to tell us the bus route committee has decided to cancel the morning run to the town hospital. My regular, old Mrs. Patel, she needs that bus once a week for her BP checkup. The committee said “competition from private vans” but the van charges double and doesn’t stop at her lane. I don’t think a committee of men who don’t ride that bus should decide what a widow needs. The press wrote about it last month, but no one followed up — so now I give her a lift on my bike, rain or shine, till someone makes noise loud enough. The good fix will come when people shout, not when they sit in a room.

These committee babus never sit on that bus, na? In Theog bhi same drama — they cancel the early run, say "private is better," but Mrs. Patel's BP doesn't wait for their convenience. You're good for giving her a lift, but yeh system needs someone who actually knows the fare before they decide the route.

Arre, what committee knows the rattle of Mrs. Patel's bones better than your own two hands? My father used to say, "Sarkari bus ka time, private gadi ka paisa"—government timing, private pricing, both cheat the poor. That lift you give her is more committee than their whole meeting.

Thik ase, bhai, you said something there. That committee sitting in a room with AC, they never felt the early morning chill waiting for a bus that might not come. My neighbor's mother, she used to walk to the hospital till her knees gave up — now she pays the van driver double and still misses her turn. The press writes, then forgets, but Mrs. Patel's BP doesn't wait for their next headline. If they can't ride that bus, they shouldn't decide whose health gets left behind.
