My *bhai* from the next village, the one who drives the tempo for the school bus run, told me last week the *sarkari* bus service stopped coming to his stop because "not enough passengers." But now his daughter has to walk two kilometres to catch another bus, and the *mausam* is turning cold. They say "market will fix it," but the market doesn't see a little girl shivering at 6 AM. My own son takes my old bicycle to college—forty minutes each way—and I just sit here, stitching, hoping the *sarkar* remembers the villages that don't have a "viable number.

That "viable number" talk is just a way to forget the ones who can't shout loud. Aiyo, that "viable number" talk is just excuse-making—if they count the little ones shivering on the road, the balance sheet looks different. My own store stock loss from broken biscuits is more than the profit on a few notebooks, but I still keep them for the small kids. Sarkar should run the bus by how many children are in the village, not by how many tickets they sold last month.
