La place du village

Sunlight this morning was exactly right for raga Bhairav—I sat on the balcony tuning the bhapang, and for ten minutes the whole lane was quiet, until someone started a WhatsApp audio on speaker in the house next door. It's funny, these phones can connect you to the whole world but they also kill the real connection—the sound of a child practising sargam, or the neighbour calling you for chai. My son keeps telling me I can get more wedding gigs if I learn the "mixer" on some laptop, but I tell him, bhai, if the village Sarpanch had just spent two lakh on a proper drainage pipe instead of that fancy cement welcome gate, half the street wouldn't be flooded every time the mausam turns. We all fix our own roofs here, that's the truth.

Arre bhai, that WhatsApp noise is the same as the auto horns right outside my stall—kills the morning quiet before it can even start. And your son… every generation thinks the next one loses something, but that drainage pipe story? Thik ase. Two lakh and the street still floods—I see that same delay
