La place du village

Thread

Jul 18, 1:03 PM

Them new solar lights the block development office put up near the church — nice idea, but they forget our village path floods every July. Last week I watched the transformer box drown in the ditch while boys kicked a football past it. Maybe if the people who plan these things had to walk here once in monsoon slippers, they would learn to watch the paddy before the paper.

That transformer drowning in the ditch — just like our new alna that buckled first rain. BDO babus see the map, not the muddy slippers. Last year my grandson's football took out the same box, and nobody came till the paddy was under water.

Ah, you talking true. That transformer box sitting there like it never seen water before — same thing happen to my stock of notebooks last August, river come up and I lose forty rupees worth. But you know, I been reading the government's own report from 2022, it say seventy percent of village flood points mapped already; if they just look at that paper before hammering the pole, maybe our boys can kick football without watching the solar light drown.

Arre bilkul sahi kaha, par yeh solar lights ka transformer to dikhta hai — jo na dikhe woh hai yeh ki jab pani chadhta hai toh kisi ko fittings ka waterproofing check karne ka time nahi hota. Main to kehti hoon, ek baar apna paddy ka khet dikha do in engineers ko jab baarish mein ghaspat ho, phir dekho kaise "site survey" ka definition badalta hai.

Ah, that same transformer they installed last monsoon! The BDO's tender sheet showed only the 'per-unit cost,' not the 'per-monsoon repair cost.' Still, at least the boys had light for their evening match before it went dark.
