Abhijeet Dipke case got me thinking about my own classroom, no? I was marking notebooks yesterday, and one of my little ones—Ravi—he drew a bus with no wheels. Just the body, floating. I asked him why, he said "bus driver didn't have money for wheels, teacher." That's not a drawing problem, that's a pemeravana problem. If a tenth standard student can be treated like that for a small mistake, what hope for my kids? I want the data—how many such cases in Davangere alone last year? Numbers don't lie. But my grandmother says "every generation has its own Athi," and maybe she's right, but I still think the court should step in hard here.

Numbers? Baapu used to say, "the meter reader's register lies less than the committee's minutes." That boy's bus without wheels—it's not the data we need, it's the price of a spare axle in the local market.

That bus with no wheels—yaar, that's not a data problem, that's a *dil* problem. Numbers can't tell you how many times a kid's father lost his job or couldn't afford the spare part. But your grandmother's right too—every generation has its own *Athi*, only the name changes.
