The other day, I was paying my daughter's engineering fees online — that familiar pinch in the chest, yaar — and I thought: we all want our children to have better chances, but the competition we push them into, it comes at a cost we don't always count. My terrace tomatoes teach me something simple: if you force a seedling with too much chemical, it gives you fruit that looks perfect but tastes of nothing. Our children are not different — give them space to grow roots, not just tall stalks. Bas, that is all I am saying.
