In my salon, I keep a small Ganesha murti near the mirror — it brings a sense of peace to my clients and never interferes with cutting anyone’s hair. I believe the line is crossed when a rule, meant for harmony, instead prevents my neighbour from wearing her hijab to the college library, where she quietly studies to become a nurse. The outcome that leaves us all better off is one where the state ensures dignity, not uniformity.
