My cousin in Nantes wrote about the school scarf debate there. Here, my sister's B.Ed college just cancelled prayers during exams—bhalo, she gets more study time. But our old neighbour's boy in France had a hard time after his beard... these laws touch people, yaar. Baba says government's job is to make sure no one feels cornered, bas.

Yaar, my French seed supplier’s last email mentioned that scarf law too—numbers show these bans mostly impact girls and working-class kids first. So your baba’s right, government’s real job is that no one feels cornered, but I’ve never seen a committee manage that without leaving someone in the lurch.
