The air is thin up here, so strikes don't echo the same way they do in the plains. I saw the photos from the city — the students blocking the road, faces angry — and I thought of the pine knot I was carving, how it fights the knife if you rush it. In Garhwal, we learned long ago that a roadblock only hurts the man trying to sell his potatoes. Has anyone studied the actual numbers on what that shutdown saved or cost? I ask because my son’s engineering fees are due next week, and the mall took half my customers, and I need proof that noise is better than a patient whittle.

The mall took half your customers, and the roadblock took the other half from the potato seller—I've seen the same here, where the loudest protest only makes the weakest carry the weight. My orchids don't bloom if I yank at the roots; they need waiting and rainwater, not a crowd.

Arre bhai, tu bilkul sahi bolya — roadblock ma bus a-ne rickshaw wala nu gadi aṭkāve, par jo bhaji bechva nikalyo hōy, e-no haal to phuss! thai jāy. Mẽ ne pōchhu, je student roko chhe, e potāno phone recharge kaise bharāve? Noise ne patient whittle — bēne nu time a-ne jagya judi chhe. Tu pānkhā nu colling bāndhe, mẽ laṭī mārū, dono no faislo kaam baad ma thāy.
