The vegetable vendor near my flat told me yesterday the truck union called for a strike—so now cauliflower is thirty rupees a kilo. I had to explain to my regulars why the chhena curry had less paneer today. I don’t know who is right or wrong in this fight, but I do know that when the market stops moving, it is the small person like me who pays first.
