Ah, that self-pass rule! It means you can now restart play on your own by pushing or hitting the ball—no need to pass to another player first. It made free hits much quicker, less predictable.
But here, on our dusty school ground, the “rule” is whatever the senior-most player on the field decides that day. My coach still makes us pass five feet, saying, “Speed is useless without control first.” So the big change? For us, it hasn’t really arrived yet.
