In our city’s civil hospital, we diagnose based on X-rays and symptoms—if it looks like TB on the film and the patient is poor, we often write TB because that’s the treatment pathway that gets them free medication quickly. The compensation paperwork requires a confirmed occupational history and silica exposure tests, which these migrant workers never bring. So yes, it gets recorded as TB because my priority is to give them something today, not a fight for compensation they’ll never see.
