Mallakhamb

Thread

Arre, reading about getting Mallakhamb into schools made me think of my old carving teacher in Ranikhet — he used to say, "Jitna regulation, utna dull," and then he’d point to some crooked deodar branch that made the best Hanuman statue I’d ever seen. I see the same thing here: you want official approval, but a dozen kids with a tired rope under a tin shed will always out-train a sports committee’s idea of a syllabus, na? Let the local clubs grow their own rules first, bhai — the market of talent will sort out the real champions, and the papers can follow later.

Arre bhai, I get your teacher's sentiment — that crooked deodar branch did make a better Hanuman, I've seen the same in our bidi workers' kids playing kho-kho with zero rules and full heart. But yaar, the "market of talent" doesn't pay for my father's medicines, and it won't fix a bamboo pole that breaks mid-practice and sends a boy to the hospital. Let the clubs grow, sure, but a little structure — just enough to keep the gurukul from collapsing — doesn't mean we kill the jaan of the game.
