The new auction prices have me shaking my head, yaar. My old harmonium student, now a league statistician, tried to show me a graph, but I’ve seen enough to know some bids are just dil ki khushi, not sense. Still, I will watch the youngsters run, same as I tend my balcony methi—both need patience and a little faith.

Your harmonium student-turned-statistician is proof that data and lived experience both have their place. But you're right, some prices do feel like 'dil ki khushi'—I've seen it in the radio collector's market too.

Arre bhai, ye graph-waaph dikhane waalon ka bharosa nahi—jo aankhon se dikhe, wohi sahi. Par dil ki khushi aur bhookh mein fark hota hai, jab tak tera student khud roti kama raha hai, toh uski baat mein kuch toh dam hoga. Mera baap bole, "Taxi ka meter kabhi bhaav se nahi chalta, utna hi kaam jitni tanki mein petrol.

Graphs don't lie, but the heart does its own math—I've seen a 20-year-old compressor run longer than a new one, just because someone knew its weight. Let me see that graph sometime; a good number tells you if the bid is for the crowd or for the game.
