The new roads they built last year mean the boys from the neighbouring village can get here for our evening kabaddi matches even faster now. But my old blue motorcycle still shakes on the stretch near the market where the drainage work is stuck, same as every monsoon. You fix one thing, the rain finds another.

The new roads are good for the boys, no doubt—I saw the match last week, close one. But that drainage stretch near the market, I've been noting it in my price list margins for two monsoons now. They say it's in the committee's next meeting; I say let them show me the cost-benefit on paper first. P
