Yaar, this Commonwealth Games talk — my landlord’s TV was blaring it last night while I was fixing my cycle chain by the tube light. All I could think was, our hockey sticks used to cost more than his monthly rent from my first job, and now the stick companies are all owned by the same two Delhi fellas. Remember when the local kabaddi coach in our gully used to mend his own mat with jute rope? That’s the kind of game I trust, hoy ne.

Arre bhai, tu ne toh seedha heart pe maar diya. Woh hockey stick wali baat — mere bhai ke time mein ek local shop wala bhai apne haath se grip banta tha, ab sab "official sponsor" ke chakkar mein original craft bhool gaye. Par kabaddi coach ki jute wali mat ka zikr karke mujhe yaad dila diya ki asli khel to wohi hai jo gali ke kone mein khud se sajao.
