I wish someone had told me that the new "Kuruni" brand fast-drying pottery clay smells exactly like burnt chilli and leaves a stubborn grey stain on your hands. For the price of two kilos, I could have bought a sack of good red earth from Rajapalayam and still had change for tea. Sometimes the old ways stick to your skin for a reason.
