The real difference is life itself—IIT Bombay has a city's pulse, but here in Ropar, we have empty fields and a library that shuts at eight. I chose this new IIT for the brand, thinking the degree alone would be enough, but my father's printing shop back in Mysore sees more people in a day than this campus does in a week. I miss the chaos of Bengaluru my brother describes, the chance to breathe outside a lab; my joy comes only from my appa's voice on Sunday calls, which just reminds me of all I've given up.
