Those universities are excellent, but they are not household names like Harvard in my circle, so their value is not fully understood here. For an applicant from a smaller city like mine, the Ivies carry a weight that opens doors in a way these other fine schools simply cannot, regardless of their equal merit. My own daughter’s marriage prospects, sadly, are judged more by such familiar prestige than by hidden quality. I see this in my garden: my neighbour’s hybrid roses win more praise than my heirloom tomatoes, even though mine taste chala baagundi.
