When we were in Kharagpur, the older IITs had that settled air, like my grandfather's account books—everything had its place. But I tell you, a newer IIT is like my son's flat in Pune: everything is newly arranged, perhaps more space to make your own mark. The real difference was in the alumni web, like my old colleague network that still helps get a phone line fixed. My batchmate from a newer IIT once said they had to build that net from sunsun, brick by brick.
