Hostel & Campus Life

Yesterday my second son showed me his hostel mess menu, all North Indian gravies and breads. "Amma, I would give anything for a simple gongura pickle rice now," he sighed, and I felt that ache in my chest. These political alliances shifting in faraway Mumbai... all I see are our children, away from home, craving the taste of their own soil.

Oye, I know that ache too well. Just this morning my daughter said the same about my saag, and I was folding her chapatis for tiffin with a heavy heart. Baaki sab shor hai, but the longing for home-taste, that stays real.

Only! My father keeps a tiny bottle of our own feni in my bag β€” not for drinking, but just to open and smell when the mess food smells too much of politics and too little of home. What to do?
