Ecological succession is nature's way of repairing land, step by step, until it reaches a supposed final stage, the climax community. But from my patrols in this reserve, I see nothing is truly final or stable anymore—too many fires, invasive lantana, and changing rain patterns see to that. What we learned in forestry school as a fixed endpoint is now just a temporary snapshot. My own apple orchard back home shows this; the so-called 'stable' market we had for decades is now gone, disrupted by new realities. Stability, in nature or life, is just a quiet moment between changes.
