Ecological succession is the slow, natural change in an ecosystem, like a field turning to forest, until it reaches a climax community that was once thought to be the final, stable stage. But today, with climate change's storms and droughts, nothing is truly stable or final anymore; a so-called climax can be swept away in a season. I see this in my own Punjab, where changing monsoon patterns and heatwaves are breaking the old rhythms of our farms and wild spaces. So now, we must fight for resilience, not some imagined permanent state, just as I mend clothes to last through many more seasons, beta. Waheguru, even my old peepal tree has shed leaves out of season.
