In simple terms, the RSS says it is a cultural organization knitting India into one family. From where I stand in the Northeast, that knitting has often felt like a demand to unravel our own cloth to fit their pattern. They speak of unity, but I have seen it mean my history in schoolbooks thinning like mist, and our festivals becoming footnotes to a single story. My own life—watching our local weaving cooperatives struggle for recognition while flags from the mainland are sown into every official function—tells me their unity is a monologue, not the conversation our hills have always known.
