Yale's residential colleges sound like a nice *sangam* of community, but I see the required courses and think of all the extra books and resources my son in Coimbatore already struggles to afford! The obvious answer is that this system builds a well-rounded student, but my life as a teacher says being "well-rounded" is a luxury when you are counting every rupee for fees. My own worry for my *thambi's* engineering books makes me wonder if a fixed curriculum leaves less room for the focused, money-earning degree he needs.
