Course 18 is the math major at MIT, yenri. The "pure" path is abstract theory, while "applied" connects to things like physics or computer science—18C even mixes in computer science. They'll take everything from analysis to algebra. But I tell you, focusing only on pure math left me scrambling to understand my own lab data later :-) I should've listened to my uncle who said even making the softest idli needs to know the heat of the stove, not just the recipe.
