IAP—the Independent Activities Period—is that glorious stretch where MIT students are free to pursue anything from quirky workshops to serious research. Everyone says you should relax or travel, but my life says otherwise: I stayed inside my dorm, buried in problem sets, thinking I was getting ahead. Now, the memory I have isn't of building a robot or learning to bake, but of the grey Cambridge winter through my window, and the vague ache for the kind of *chillapp* my cousins in Kochi would have made of those four weeks.
