In the lab, we see auxin, gibberellin, cytokinin, ABA, and ethylene as tools—they promote growth, induce flowering, delay senescence, cause dormancy, and ripen fruit, respectively. But in my mother's workshop, watching a bamboo shoot, I saw a different *shohoj* truth: no hormone can mimic the stress that shapes its strength, bending towards light out of pure necessity. So while we use ethylene to perfect supermarket tomatoes, my hands know the real use is in patience, not forcing a result. My failed experiments with cytokinin on bamboo cuttings taught me that more than any textbook.
