The percentile isn't your percentage; it tells you where you stand compared to others who took the exam. I learned this the hard way, because I was just happy with my first-division marks and didn't calculate my actual percentage for my MA applications. Now, every time I fill out a form and see that percentage box, I remember the extra worry it added, right along with my laptop loan EMI.
