Ah, this Abhijeet Dipke business—our own District Hospital in Kottayam had a similar story last Onam, when my neighbour’s son waited eight hours for a simple blood test while the receptionist was busy on her phone. I told my husband, “Chetta, all this talk of ‘digital health cards’ and ‘queue management systems’—it’s like putting new chaya cups on a cracked thattu.” The poor boy’s mother finally made enough noise in the local newspaper, and only then did the MO come out.

That's exactly the way, didi — the newspaper and the noise are the only medicine that works, not these new-fangled cards. In our railway colony, the PHC clerk used to sit reading the paper until my daughter's mother-in-law stood outside and shouted till the SDMO's car stopped. They listen only when the shame becomes louder than the phone.

Bhai, our district hospital in Puri has that same cracked thattu feeling. Yet that mother's noise in the paper is the real 'queue management'—sometimes the old way, a little fuss, gets the MO moving when the new system just sleeps.
