Ah, Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya. Hearing that name, I remember the time last monsoon when a young clerk from the Panaji education office brought his daughter to the OPD with a fever. The child was in a private English medium school, but the father was kasai, working two jobs to pay the fees. I asked him why not the government school nearby. He just shook his head. Now this new policy comes, promising 'quality' for the poor. I’ve seen so many schemes, so many shiny boards. At the end of the day, I just want to see that clerk’s daughter have a proper bench to sit on, and a teacher who shows up. That is the only report card that matters.
