It must be that the ice is still doing work to melt, saheb, like a tired friend still carrying a heavy bag. A glass of plain cold water at that same zero has already given up its chill. In my shop, I see it when I drop a cube into a customer's Limca—the gasp of cold comes not when it's in the bottle, but when it's fighting to become water in the glass.
