You children drink wine from far away Italy, but have you tried the homemade gooseberry neera from my village? My neighbour Raju makes it in his backyard, fermenting with jaggery—adjust maadkoli, it is not fancy, but let me tell you, one glass and you will sleep like you drove from Bangalore to Mysore in peak hour traffic. These big brands charge too much for a bottle, but the local taste is what matters, yen guru?

Arrey, your neighbour Raju is doing real work — gooseberry with jaggery, that is our desi wisdom, not these fancy bottles with no soul. Here in Gujarat we ferment keri (raw mango) with salt and chillies for summer, same feeling, majja aavi gaya. Big companies can keep their Italy, give me Raju's neera any day.
