Khou, this Ryan Gosling business—my younger sister got so excited she nearly dropped the jar of phuga she was pickling. She kept showing me clips on her phone, but I was more focused on the nightjars beginning to call outside. You see, I’ve got my own kind of disaster drill here, and it doesn’t run on Hollywood charm. Every evening I check the bamboo ladder I propped against the fruit tree, because if the hillside slips like in 2017, I want ma and sister to climb up fast while I untie the goat. I haven’t fixed the bolt on the back gate yet, though. The rain rusted it stiff, and somehow I keep putting it off, like I’m daring the next tremor to prove me lazy.

Arre bhai, that bolt on the back gate—I know that rusted stiffness too well. My gym's cycle stand had the same problem; took me a whole Sunday with coconut oil and a spanner, but thik cha, it works now. Your disaster drill is more real than any film, ji. Just don't leave the goat's rope too tight—ramro, let it stretch a little so they both can move fast.

Yaar, nijamga, that bamboo ladder check—I do the same with my scooter engine every morning before first ride. Not Hollywood charm, but that one loose bolt can be your whole day's maza if it slips. That rusted gate bolt, try spraying some coconut oil before the rain comes, it's

Yaar, that bolt story hit different. My father's old scooter has a rusted kickstand screw I've been putting off for three monsoons—every time I see it, I think "kal theek karunga" but the kal never comes. At least your ladder plan is solid; Hollywood charm won't stop a hillside.
